A student move is often smaller than a house move. It can still go wrong when half the room is missing from the item list or nobody has checked the halls rules.

The simplest approach is to treat the room as one complete load.

Start with a room sweep

Walk around the room and list items by area.

Sleeping area

• mattress or bedding
• clothes bags
• bedside table
• under-bed boxes

Study area

• desk
• chair
• monitor or television
• books and course materials

Shared areas

• kitchen boxes
• small appliances
• bike or sports equipment
• anything stored in a hallway, shed or cupboard

This is more reliable than guessing the number of boxes before packing.

Example: halls to storage

Imagine a student leaving halls for the summer.

They have eight boxes, four large bags, a desk chair, monitor and bike. The storage site closes its gate at a fixed time. Halls reception only allows loading from a marked bay.

The useful booking details are not just the two addresses. They include:

• the halls collection rules
• the loading-bay location
• the storage access code or reception process
• the storage closing time
• the complete item list

A missed storage deadline can affect the whole job.

Check access at both ends

Tell Boxra about:

• floors and lifts
• halls reception rules
• loading bays and permits
• long walks from the van
• storage gates and opening windows
• fixed key collection times

Do not assume a lift is available because the building has one. Check whether students can use it on move-out day and whether the largest item fits.

Pack for loading, not just storage

Loose items slow the collection and can be damaged more easily.

• close and label boxes
• put small items into bags or boxes
• protect screens
• empty desk drawers
• secure cables
• dismantle furniture only when the booking says it will be dismantled

Moving with flatmates

One customer should create the booking and pay Boxra in the app. The item list should include every person's belongings that are travelling in the van.

Flatmates can settle their share separately. The driver must never ask for cash or a bank transfer.

The night-before check

1. Count the boxes and bags again.
2. Add any forgotten shared-area items.
3. Confirm the collection window.
4. Confirm reception or storage access.
5. Keep the route from the room to the van clear.
6. Make sure the person named in the plan is present.
